Concert Listings Roundup #113

You can read more about why I'm doing listings here. Long story short: This curated and decidedly non-comprehensive list contains nothin' but shows that I am going to/would go to if I had more time.

Gig of the week:

Fresh Snow [EP release!] (Carl Didur / Zones / Nailbiter) / Smiling Buddha 2015-09-09 (Wednesday) [FB event]

Whether appearing as their bloody corpse alter-egos or sending their horn section off for excursions through the crowd, Fresh Snow know how to put on a party, so expect some razzle-dazzle as the band release their long-awaited Won EP on Hand Drawn Dracula. (Be sure to show up early to check all the fab openers, incl. local genius Carl Didur, tropical wooze-ists Zones and Nailbiter, a new solo endeavour from Beliefs' Josh Korody.)

Community corner:

  • John Creson and Adam Rosen might be known to readers of this blog as the improving visualists at the Audiopollination series (and as occasional singers). Special congratulations are due as their experimental short UNcirCling is premiering in the Wavelengths programme at this year's TIFF.
  • There's a new dispatch from Melissa Boraski's Eiyn Sof project. The Chthonic Tongue moves further into the mysterious realms of mystical/minimalist folk, employing just autoharp and voice — moving away from the masterful pop of Bloodstreams and her split tape from a couple years ago, but still quite wonderful stuff.
  • Meanwhile pop DIY-ist (and Toronto's favourite emcee) Doc Pickles has released The Return of Tiger Bomb, matching his keen lyrical observations and one-of-a-kind delivery to a series of musical styles.
