Lotte Anker/Craig Taborn/Chris Corsano - [excerpt]

Closing out the third night of the Women From Space Festival, this trio played with purpose, moving from pointilist sketches to some quaking outbursts. Lotte Anker (soprano and tenor sax) was front and centre, but pianist Craig Taborn also held things together, linking sections of the continuous set with solo introspections while percussionist Chris Corsano, provided the thorny textures that gave flavour to the proceedings.

Recording: Lotte Anker

Artist: Lotte Anker

Songs: [excerpts from two pieces]

Recorded at The Tranzac's Southern Cross Lounge (TONE Festival 3.3/Cramzac Presents), June 11, 2019.

Lotte Anker - [first piece excerpt]

Lotte Anker - [second piece excerpt]

Andrew Zukerman's low-key Cramzac series (on the second Tuesday of the month) usually offers up some enticing sounds; this night was shared with the TONE Festival, offering the stage to some European guests to interface with local soundmakers. This Copenhagen-based Danish saxophonist brought three horns to the stage for her solo sax explorations. Starting with soprano, she moved into some extended techniques, bowing the bell of her tenor while playing.

[Cramzac is back in the Southern Cross next Tuesday (August 14th) with sets from Karla (Yunjin Claire Lee & Yoni Newman) plus Doc Dunn & Friends.]
