Recording: Private Joy

Artist: Private Joy

Songs: [two unknown songs]*

Recorded at The Garrison, December 1, 2016.

Private Joy - [two unknown songs]

Although the name was unfamiliar to me, once they hit the stage I put it together that this was the band formerly known as Farang under a new moniker. Featuring the same heavy punk pummelling and saucy snarl, there isn't a bold new direction to go with the new name, but there was a new set of equally impressive quick in-and-out songs. And once more, they're not too effusive online — there's a couple songs on bandcamp, but not much else.

Recording: Farang

Artist: Farang

Songs: Used to Be a Man + unknown*

Recorded at Artscape Gibraltar Point ("EXVEE"), May 30, 2015.

Farang - Used to Be a Man

Farang - unknown

Celebrating fifteen years as a retreat and incubator for the arts, Artscape Gibraltar Point decided to throw itself a big party, a day of music and secular blessings. Rain early on kept the crowds away somewhat, but it turned into a fairly pleasant day, with music in the backyard tent going ahead from late afternoon to late at night.

After some dancefloor-friendly fare, Farang's hardcore-inspired blasts felt rather invigourating. The band doesn't seem to have much online beyond their bandcamp, but they're worth seeking out.

Recorded at The Great Hall's Conversation Room ("Long Winter: Year 2, Volume 4"), February 7, 2014.

Farang - Ear of the Bull + If You're Not Now You Never Were

Full review to follow. Farang got things started in the Conversation Room with some intense punk energy. Kudos to the guitarist for shredding his way through a speedcore solo, broken string at all — and plunging on through the set like that.
