Although things didn't feel exactly right, taking over Lee's Palace instead of packing The Silver Dollar, there were good vibes and all-star jams a-plenty at this night dedicated to Dan Burke, celebrating his 60th birthday as well as twenty years of promoting shows. The special guests definitely made this set memorable, with Anagram/Surinam's Matt Mason adding a menacing edge to a driving version of Elevator's "The Cloud". And after that, things got as close to a Deadly Snakes reunion as you might be likely to see, with Comet Control's Chad Ross and Andrew Moszynski being joined by old comrades Andre Ethier and Yuri Didrichson, dedicating the Stones' "Hand of Fate" to Dan Burke as well as tackling this Joe Tex number.

Closing out an afternoon of in-store performances, Comet Control turned up the volume in Sonic Boom's basement. Tasty all around, even if guitarist Andrew Moszynski was having a bit of a bad luck day, breaking a couple strings as the set went on. Perhaps it's just having more time to live with the songs on their album, but the band's dynamic increasingly feels like its own thing, with less need to invoke comparisons to Quest For Fire — just put in your earplugs and rock along with it.

Full review to follow. Closing out a full day of music, Comet Control had to overcome some adverse conditions when it became clear that the makeshift stage setup had too few circuits for too much gear (and lights and who knows what else) and the PA conked out a couple times. Drummer Jay Anderson kept things rolling as things were hurriedly fixed, and once the band got rolling it was a fitting and powerful way to finish things off.

Full review to follow. Sneaking in an early set to a fairly quiet room, Chad Ross introduced his new post-Quest For Fire Unit. It included faces old and new and musically wouldn't be considered a radical departure from his earlier work, although the tempos were generally speedier than the sludgier tendencies of QFF (or his solo Nordic Nomadic incarnation).
