Artist: Tess Parks and Friends

Song: Cigarettes & Alcohol [Oasis cover]

Recorded at The Silver Dollar Room ("Death to T.O. 3"), October 31, 2013.

Tess Parks and Friends - Cigarettes & Alcohol

Full review to follow. Now in its third year (perhaps long enough to call it a Hallowe'en tradition!) Death to T.O. filled the Silver Dollar and Comfort Zone with a non-stop night of music — no less than thirteen bands doing mini cover sets in full costume. Many of the bands chose to pay tribute to artists they felt a close artistic kinship with, and that was no exception here. But beyond fandom, it also places Parks in rock'n'roll's ongoing spectrum — her debut album will be coming out this month on 359 Music, a new venture from Alan McGee, who just happened, of course, to sign Oasis once upon a time.

Sunday Playlist #41

Sunday Playlist #41: Milk The Milkers

At the start of this week, all my feeds practically blew up with the release of Milkin' It, a tribute to Nirvana's In Utero put together by Hand Drawn Dracula. The tracklisting elicited a cheer from me 'cause these are bands that I love to go see all the time. In fact, it occurred to me once I did some poking around that I have live recordings from everyone involved in the project. So in case you wanted to hear what these bands sound like on stage doing their own material, here's a track-for-track answer playlist.

Tess Parks - Life Is But A Dream

Full review to follow. It's been good news for good people since I last saw Tess Parks and co. playing, with Parks being among the first wave of artists aigned to Alan McGee's new 359 Music label. Expect the momentum to keep building, with the band's album due in November.

Recording: Tess Parks

Artist: Tess Parks

Song: Anemone [Brian Jonestown Massacre cover]*

Recorded at Sonic Boom ("Record Store Day 2013"), April 20, 2013.

Tess Parks - Anemone

Full review to follow. Anyone that was still sleepy as the full day's worth of live music began at Sonic Boom had a chance to be nudged towards consciousness with Parks' hazy, drowsy stylings. Parks, a noted photographer whose Take Care of Your Soul exhibit just closed at Oz Studios, showed off a well-crafted group sound that fills in some of the spareness of the demos that appeared online a few months ago. I'm looking forward to hearing more of this.
