The band is done (or so they say) but the gang lives on. Calling it a day, TTWW brought together a crammed room (on a freakin' Tuesday night!) to bounce off each other one last time to their particular mix of punk aggression, sonic sludge and postrock epic grandeur. Expect to see these folks around, hanging out and/or playing together in new configurations — the end is the beginning is.

On a night celebrating the release of DAS RAD's ace new Radiation album, the night's openers were mostly drawn from the "family" of Teen Tits Wild Wives and other bands associated with its members. Perhaps everyone got enough chances to rage out in those other sets, as TTWW instead went inwards, devoting about half of their set to a different sort of loosely-structured abstraction than what they usually approach, filled with implied tension rather than extroverted release. This appears to be a near-final page in the TTWW story, as they have announced their next gig [Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Smiling Buddha] as their final show.

Teen Tits Wild Wives - Anything Ice

Full review to follow. There's a couple things that are immediately striking about Teen Tits Wild Wives (besides their name, which I must confess I'm not one hundred per cent behind). First is that there's no straightforward allegiance to any sort of genre — punk spazz-outs, group sing-alongs and shaggy postrock anthems are all gleefully tackled. Second is the obvious delight that this group of friends exhibit on being on stage together. That we-are-family joyfulness is what pulls that sonic shiftiness together — and the sense that you're welcome to join the gang if you're ready to bop along is the promise that completes the experience.
