Recorded at Artscape Gibraltar Point (Wavelength 678: Camp Wavelength – Day 2), August 29, 2015.
Prince Rama - So DestroyedYou can read my general notes on Camp Wavelength here. Being introduced to Brooklyn's Prince Rama at this point involves a bit of a double-take, as it's a little hard to square the superglam explosion witnessed in this set with the band's neo-New Age background. But last year's Top Ten Hits Of The End Of The World, which presented sisters Taraka and Nimai Larson as a K-Tel style Various Artists anthology, seems to have given them the space to engage their pop instincts — and it feels like they must have been chewing bubblegum on the side for years. The fact that they've also released an 80's style workout video (on VHS!) gives a closer clue to their current aesthetic, and this set was a sheer delight as the group (currently touring as a trio) played with all the glee of an elementary school lip sync pageant, ending with a shoulder-riding crowd excursion. One of the highlights of the festival.
