LIDS - unknownYou can read my general notes on Camp Wavelength here. Call it a supergroup if you must, given that this project combines the talents of Brian Borcherdt (Holy Fuck), Alex Edkins (METZ) and Doug MacGregor (Constantines). Given its slow gestation and sporadic emergences, it has to exist within the constraints of everyone's schedules — and even then, one gets the impression it exists as much as a chance for the members to hang out and jam as to be an audience-oriented music project. That casual vibe has been endangered ever since the band has dropped their debut single on Telephone Explosion, leading to more widespread demands for them to get on stage. I actually saw the trio last winter at a basement-y punk show, and I wasn't blown away then — mostly a result of their sound not translating well in that environment, it would turn out, as I was pretty well convinced this time. Edkins' bass work is the real stealth weapon here, combining the lumbering menace of "Sex Bomb" with a phenomenally funky groove.
