Jim Demos, currently of Montréal, gives the impression of a restless itinerant musician, and the music he's making as Hellenica sounds like the soundtrack to a trip across a vast, empty country — spaghetti western ambient sprawl (in the style of GY!BE) with building layers of structured guitar and wordless vocalisations. And in the case of this expansive final number — which took up the second half of his set — there was also an unexpected turn as he set down the guitar and took to the drums to give the piece a thunderous conclusion.
