Total conflict-of-interest alert here, as I had a part in pulling this together, but there's gonna be some cool rumblings down below the fab-as-always Long Winter this month. The folks from Audiopollination put on a monthly night of spontaneous music and improvised visuals, and we're going to try and bring some of that vibe to the BLK BOX. Long Winter is an awesome place to discover new music, so hopefully we can give people a taste of our city's rich creative music scene.

Community corner:
For the past two years, the Somewhere There collective have pulled together an excellent festival that showcases the range of the local creative music scenes. Year three, set for The Tranzac on February 20-22, promises to be as appealing, with a slew of MFS faves on tap to perform, teach and talk — check out those listings above.
With a little less gov't funding this year, the festival has started an Indiegogo campaign to make sure their costs are covered and the artists get paid. The best thing you can do is to kick in now for some tickets — or even better, a weekend pass, which gets you access to all five shows over the weekend for a super-reasonable $45. (Pro-tip: the durable t-shirts are quite a striking fashion statement as well.)
