Tasseomancy - What Life Must I Lead?
Full review to follow. Although Sari and Romy Lightman have kept up work on their band in between bursts of touring the world (as members of Austra), I hadn't checked in for a little while, so it was exciting to realize that they had not only a setlist chock full o' new tunes, but have actually put some of them out there on an already sold-out tape release, which I can only imagine will also form the spine of their next album. Musically, it seems like they've let the sunshine in a little bit on the new tracks compared to the goth-gloom that pervaded Ulalume, with a corresponding brightening of their sonic palette. They've been experimenting with steel drums for a while now, but Evan Cartwright's deployment of them here really gives these songs a distinct feeling.
