Tenor saxophonist Paul Newman has been celebrating his birthday for the past several years by curating a concert for Somewhere There, but for his fiftieth he pulled rank and assembled a night to play four of his larger-scale compositions, each with different accompanists. With many collaborators in the crowd, it was a befitting celebration, birthday cake included.
