Artist: James Bailey
Song: [solo saxophone improvisation]
Recorded at Dundas Video (Track Could Bend #12), March 1, 2016.
James Bailey - [solo saxophone improvisation, part 1]
James Bailey - [solo saxophone improvisation, part 2]
Besides being an electronic experimenter1 and radio host, James Bailey is also an open-hearted dabbler with sounds of all kinds, finding as much beauty in broken instruments as in "proper" performance. For this set, he brought both tenor sax as well as a trombone that was played in both standard and semi-disassembled configurations — and then, for a closer, a brief blast with both together.
[Track Could Bend returns to Dundas Video on Tuesday, April 5th for its First Anniversary Spectacular, which will feature an all-star assortment of players from the series' first year both in some new recombinations as well in instant "bands-from-a-hat" improvised sets.]
1 Pro-tip: listening to this in another window while playing back this recording is a surprisingly-satisfying experience.
