Artist: Persons
Songs: two unknown songs*
Recorded at Lula Lounge, July 26, 2018.
Rock shows in the sumptuous Lula Lounge are a relatively-unusual thing (though with a paucity of options, more shows have been showing up there lately). Kicking off a celebratory night in support of Goosebump's new album, Hamilton's Persons started things off with a metaphorical glitter explosion. Rocking a sort of post-binary workout groove, the quartet (which has since, I understand, reduced itself to a duo) offered a mashup of genres and vocal styles (though Q-Tip's rap on "Groove Is In The Heart" and/or an acid-dappled Digable Planets are in the mix there somewhere). Dayglo chaos and intense onstage dance moves (whose primary inspiration might be the hypnotic herky-jerk stutters of animated gif's) made it easy to overlook that there was actually a lot of choreographed coordination at play. Unclassifiable and joyous — maybe just call it a best-case scenario for post-apocalyptic rave culture.
