Artist: Manticore
Song: Abundant Habitat
Recorded at Ratio, May 29, 2015.
Manticore - Abundant HabitatWhat started off as a casual aside ("You could slot Mirrors between Manticore and Moonwood") ended up being the impetus for this gig, gathering all three bands together for a night of drone-influenced pop (pop-influenced drones?) at Ratio.
The most song-oriented of the night's sets, David Jones and Zoë Alexis-Abrams showed off a quartet of compositions carefully crafted from the former's layered guitar and the latter's vocals. Alexis-Abrams didn't need any effects to showcase her wonderfully malleable voice, with her sounds ranging from free-flowing xenoglossy to Yoko Ono-ish crooning to something that sounded like a ballad from an elfish broadway show.
[After some recent time concentarting on completing their first album, Manticore are returning to the stage with a bit more frequency. You can catch them Sunday at Double Double Land, alongside Italy's Jooklo Duo and Colin Fisher/Carl Didur's Fake Humans.]
