Shotgun Jimmie - Transistor Sister Medley, Pt. 1

Shotgun Jimmie - Blues Riffs

Shotgun Jimmie - Sorry, We're Closed

This gig at The Tranzac came together to mark the end of the recording of Jim Kilpatrick's forthcoming Transistor Sister II album, with musicians Jay Baird, Ryan Peters and Jose Contreras coming from the final session with the tunes and arrangements still fresh in their heads. That was enough to get a packed and standing-room-only Southern Cross filled with eager fans, who quickly quieted down when Kilpatrick went right into the first set, which was an unplugged/unaccompanied campfire-style dash through the first Transistor Sister album.

After a fairly quick break, the band came on to play the new material, filled with fresh takes on some of the songwriter's characteristic concerns, like "Sappy Slogans", and "The New Sincerity" (the latter came with some Pavement-esque irony-rock grooves). The set-closer, heard here, showed off a Neil Young-ish croon, and then lingered for some Crazy Horsin' around.

* The titles to these new ones is subject to confirmation — I'm semi-confident in the first, but less so regarding the second.
