The Chime - At Nuit Blanche at 3 a.m.

A field recording from my Nuit Blanche wanderings. Marc De Pape has been involved with several interesting projects — perhaps most notably to music fans he was a member of Reverie Sound Revue. His OCAD thesis project is The Chime, "a collection of 18 sensors measuring 27 parameters assembled to poetically translate the impulses and flows of the everyday city into sound". How various physical environments translate into different sonic textures can be seen on the project's bandcamp page (which, it should be noted, works on its own as a rather lovely ambient album). For Nuit Blanche, the indoor environment was perhaps more static than some of the outside terrains on the album, but the constant flow of people in the room caused more than enough environmental variation (displayed on a screen overhead) for a satisfying musical experience.
