Full review to follow. I'd noted Clara Engel's name playing on some bills with folks I dig lately, but it wasn't until this east-end excursion that I got a chance to hear her in action. Backed with cello, lap steel and judiciously spare percussion, her tunes sounded a bit like PJ Harvey singing an audiobook of Angela Carter fairy tales. This wintry meditation seems like a perfect reflection of the night.
