Laura Barrett was a key player is this city's indie scene of a decade or so ago, growing from the is-it-a-novelty-act? questions surrounding her early kalimba pop into a bona fide songwriter. Transitioning into work for film, she has been less conspicuously present on local stages (especially since Sheezer, the Weezer cover project she was a part of, called it a day), which makes the decade-in-the-making release of Who Is The Baker? a true special occasion.

Community corner:
- Constellations presents: Resonant Bodies will be having an exhibition opening on Sunday (August 11th) at the Toronto Media Arts Centre. Featuring MFS fave Cheldon Paterson (a.k.a. ShowPitchSound) plus Aliya Pabani, Chandra Melting Tallow, Jon Tjhia, Kaija Siirala and Phoebe Wang, artists have created new sound-based works "about the sonic reflections between bodies and their environments". Aspects of these works will be performed live by the artists at the exhibition opening, and admission is free with an RSVP. (The exhibition will run from August 11th-17th.)
- As previously mentioned in this space, Simone Schmidt's "theatrical" revision of her Audible Songs from Rockwood album begins a string of performances at the SummerWorks festival this weekend. Ticket info for all five shows and everything else you need can be found here.
