Recent transplants Kayla Milmine (vox, soprano sax, snacks) and Brian Abbott (guitar, surgery) have been making inroads into the local weirdo and improvised scenes the old-fashioned way: by showing up at a bunch of shows, whether in the audience or by booking gigs anywhere that'll take 'em. It means that their longstanding musical partnership (think punk-jazz cabaret) seems to've arrived here fully formed, and it's rather a sight to see, cramming songs and styles together into tightly-knit medleys while presenting it all with theatrical gusto. At this show, that entailed the on-stage evisceration of a piñata in between sardonic songs of New Jersey's charms and self-aware worker bees. Chances are they'll wrangle their way onto a stage near you soon, so keep an eye out.
