I can't say that I was familiar with this Torontonian expat, but the evidence suggests that decamping to Berlin has been quite beneficial, imbuing her songs with an old European cabaret melancholy as well as a dark synth vibe. And it's powerful stuff — it's rare to see an opener unknown to most people in a room garner a reaction like this set received.
