Celebrating the release of a lovely-looking split record on Pleasence, Edmonton's Taiwan made their local live début in a stripped-down fashion, with founder Philip Dickau playing a set of solo piano tunes. When swathed in Badalamenti-esque keybs and other instrumentation, the music takes on an "experimental smooth jazz" vibe, but with just piano there was more of a Satie musique d'ameublement feel (with, perhaps, some hints of Ann Southam's quieter side).
