When I invited Daniel Pencer to play TCB, I thought that might result in some electronic midi confusion; instead, Pencer went in the other direction, performing a stripped-back set for solo sax. This turned out to be a fully-satisfying idea, and, by his own confession, rather a rarity for him. Reaching back behind him to dim the lights before playing, his thoughts in sound had plenty plaintive and lyrical zones.
