This tasty night of self-curated sounds saw four different ensembles take the floor, backed by visuals generated by Kelley Mitchell. Syd Ortega's Hybrid Frequency project tends to more abrasive noise when playing on his own, but as a collaborator he can wring a wide range of sounds from his compact pedal-based rig. Here, he mostly generated drones while Neal D. Retke (a.k.a. {AN} EeL) provided vocal outbursts and other spinning sonic surprises.
[Hybrid Frequency will be celebrating a new split tape with Knurl at a release show this Saturday (May 5th) at The Dupe Shop. It's a free/early show with an opening set by Corrodesion.]
