You can read more about why I'm doing listings here. Long story short: This curated and decidedly non-comprehensive list contains nothin' but shows that I am going to/would go to if I had more time.
Gig of the week:
Andre Ethier [Under Grape Leaves Telephone Explosion release party!] (Blessings [Robin Dann from Bernice] / Joseph Shabason) / The Baby G 2017-01-19 (Friday) [FB event]
After a fairly-quick-fire four-album run (including the discographically-confusing back-to-back On Blue Fog and Born of Blue Fog) around and after the end of The Deadly Snakes, it's been nearly a decade without a new album from Andre Ethier. That makes the release of Under Grape Leaves from Telephone Explosion into something of an event, worthy of a celebration. Though still occasionally seen making a garage-rawkin' ruckus on stage, his albums have already had their share of mellower moments — and though I don't know where on the spectrum this release party is going to fall, the choice of a couple excellent texture purveyors to open things up suggest this show might be suitable for attentive listening more than Friday night rowdiness.
