With a stripped-down rigour that leaves his other band Wooden Shjips sounding like an orchestra, Ripley Johnson (along with Sanae Yamada) creates jams that feel like the musical equivalent of downing a horse tranquilizer laced with ecstasy — the pounding, repetitive drum-machine beats and droney keys are hypnotic and make you feel like you're suddenly subject to Jupiter-force gravity, but the whole thing still has a dance-worthy chugging groove. Sleepwalking, as it turns out, is an ideal topic for the band to investigate.
