I Have Eaten the City - [second part]Full review to follow. In a second story unit at College and Spadina, Ratio has the crisp, efficient feel of a new enterprise, but also a cozy livingroom vibe. Meant as a flexible space for a full range of artistic endeavours, let us wish them success and long life. Celebrating their official opening was this tape release show for a new album from IHETC, the long-running (if recently intermittent) combo of Nick Storring (cello, electronics, voice, guitar), Brandon Valdivia (percussion, flute, vocalizations) and Colin Fisher (guitar, saxophone). Over the course of an hour the trio explored a variety of terrain meshing their diverse instruments and musical points of view. Perhaps the most striking take-away here was to see the uncanny efficiency with which they were working, creating more complexity and deeper interplay with little wasted effort. I don't know if there's anything else immediately on the horizon for the group, but you will want to keep an eye out for a chance to see something at one of the city's most intriguing new spaces.
