The last time Montréal's Noordwiijk was in town, it was under less-than-ideal circumstances, playing his delicate laptop-controlled electroacoustic compositions in a bar where interested listeners were outnumbered by chicken wing-eating hangers-out. I was fully pleased, then, to have a chance to help set up a return to town in an environment more conducive to focused listening. As the room's lights went down, the crowd zoned inward to join on the music's metaphorical sea voyage, built from fragments of scored and improvised recordings and layered into an ocean of humming drones.
