Swankey, Duncan, and Oore - [excerpt from first piece, part 2]

One of the festival's gems was stashed away at this afternoon show, with civic treasure Christine Duncan proclaiming her spirit vocalisations alongside Laura Swankey and saxophonist Daniel Oore. Swankey, an emerging creative vocalist in her own right, mostly played straightwoman here as Duncan investigated the need of new names for new souls (if you run into any babies named Alecaluyalloyd or Sosu nine months from now, you'll know where their names came from) and Oore served as the wild card, adding some melodic structure but also whipping the crowd into the festival's only "throw-your-hands-in-the-air" moment a little later on. Joyfully playful throughout, toward the end of this extract Duncan exclaims (in deadpan mock-surprise) "we seem to be making it up as we go along!" — this is Somewhere There at its best.
