One of those process-heavy and super-informal occasions that can make an evening at The Tranzac so intriguing. This early set convened by Brodie West (alto sax) saw him joined by Tania Gill on piano and Alexei Orechin on acoustic guitar. (I've also seen the latter exploring ambient zones and tape textures with his No Seas project.) Everyone brought a piece or two to play, and a couple standards were tackled — there were some introductions between the players and time for between-song huddles over charts before plunging into freshly-negotiated arrangements. There was a unity of sound here — shades of sophisticated/arranged pop, rendered with a delicate sensibility.
