The Ryan Driver Quintet - Vanity

This month's version of Ryan Driver's longstanding standards band was without Michael Davisdon on vibes, and also featured a guest rhythm section with Phil Melanson (drums) and Josh Cole (double bass) sitting in. In theory (and in practice) this pair are good subs for this band, 'cause neither are push players — they can both drift along pretty respectably. But even with guests on board, this group and its languid drift (with occasional bursts of stormy weather) remains intensively deeply-itself as the city's foremost weird band (and all the weirder for cloaking that under one the foremost veneers of normality).
