Concert Listings Roundup #13

You can read more about why I'm doing listings here. Long story short: This curated and decidedly non-comprehensive list contains nothin' but shows that I am going to/would go to if I had more time.

Gigs of the week:

X Avant VIII (Morton Feldman String Quartet No. 2 feat. The FLUX Quartet / The Music Gallery 2013-10-12 (Saturday) [FB event]

Toy Piano Composers: "TPC Turns 5!" / Gallery 345 2013-10-12 (Saturday) [FB event]

Two excellent New Music events on Saturday night. The Feldman Quartet at the Music Gallery will be a bit of something unusual, given that the piece runs six hours. Billed as a "a slow-motion rave", you're not expected to sit still for the whole thing, and we are promised "a chillout room, video games, food vendors on site and a live broadcast on CIUT". Those looking for something less endurance-based should head over for the Toy Piano Composers show, which should be a fun celebration with some serious + fresh music.

Afterthought: An opportunity exists to see both of these! Word on the street is that Music Gallery is offering TPC ticket holders a discounted $20 ticket price to continue the evening's adventures — which should still get you a good chunk o' Feldman.

Notes:

  • Check back this afternoon for a preview of the X Avant festival, plus a chance to win some tickets!
  • Remember that there's no subway service south of Bloor this weekend, so plan extra travel time if you're going anywhere you would've taken the train to.
