Originally scheduled as an Amber set, trombonist Scott Thomson had to pivot and improvise when Lori Freedman was unavailable, leading to this alternate duo with saxophonist John Oswald taking the stage. More akin to a conversation, there was plenty musical chatter back-and-forth over the course of a set.

¹ One observer noted to the players that the band bame "Joust" contained the initials of John Oswald and Scott Thomson, but wondered what the "U" was for? Oswald responded that it was not, in fact, a "U", but the set union symbol "∪", making the duo's name a mathematical statement.
