Excellent work all around at this Audiopollination night, featuring Montréal guests Ellwood Epps (trumpet) and Yves Charuest (sax). The first two sets saw them playing separately in larger ensembles of some of my fave local improvisers — Karen Ng (sax), Paul Newman (sax), Germaine Liu (perc) and Rob Clutton (bass) with Epps; Nicole Rampersaud (trumpet), Joe Sorbara (perc) and Ken Aldcroft (guitar) with Charuest. Neither of those were over-cluttered (the extended excerpts above should indicate that I found this to be more fun than a supermoon eclipse) but a concluding duo set stripped everything back to the essentials of beautiful interaction.
